“Well Daryl, this has been one helluva eye-opening experience! This “Doubting Thoma” who once considered cancelling is now a Happy Camper. Cuba has and is experiencing many difficulties. However through your well established connections, our group found no difficulties. Electricity was available in all our hotels and restaurants. A few even had back up generators not only in Havana, but even in Trinidad, a pearl of a city. Taxis with gas was well established for our 1951 Ford and our two 1956 Chevy station wagons. Gas Shortage? Yes, but not by your connections. I’m glad that I threw caution to the wind and decided to join your tour! Now I can say, “What Difficulties?!””

Our 5 day time in Cuba with Daryl Hawk was eye opening, charming and well organized. We covered Havana extensively and visited Vinales – stopping at points of interest, including an orchid garden and a cigar making farm. The trip east to Hemingway’s home was fascinating. Accommodation in Havana was first rate and personal. The Cuban people welcomed us warmly. There was music everywhere. We recommend the trip highly!

We discovered Daryl’s ‘The Unconventional Travelers’ Classic Cuba tour by fortuitous conversation and were intrigued by his offer to customize the itinerary and make our visit something unique. From greeting us at the airport in a classic 1954 Ford, to a day long trip to the majestic limestone mogotes in the Vinales Valley and historic orchid gardens, to a walking tour of the historic squares and buildings in old Havana, we were constantly struck with his love for the Cuban people and his knowledge of the island. He handled all the arrangements – a lovely small hotel, meals at restaurants, drivers, translators – and knew all of the special places that visitors want to see, including in our case, Finca Vigia, the hilltop house of Ernest Hemingway. We look forward to a return trip!

My recent trip to Havana, Cuba was a wonderful experience. Both Old Havana and the surrounding countryside were great places to visit. At the end of my stay I really felt I knew the city of Havana. My hotel was right in the heart of Old Havana. Hotel and staff were excellent and the food in the hotel and in the surrounding neighborhood restaurants were fantastic. It was a lot of fun being driven around during my stay in 1950’s classic cars. I really had a wonderful experience traveling a week with Daryl Hawk!
